of the tapped hole. Prior to installation of inserts, it is highly recommended that the tapped hole is gauged with a HeliCoil Gauge. This will ensure that the hole is tapped according to the proper specs and dimensions.

If the tapped hole gauges correctly, it is not necessary to gauge the installed thread insert as the installed insert will be within the thread tolerance.

After the HeliCoil insert has been installed, the Go Gauge may on occasion, not enter freely. However, the insert will always seat itself when the bolt or screw is installed and tightened.

Extraction Tool

Extraction Tool

Where there is a need to remove a threaded insert , the HeliCoil Extraction Tool is used. The extracting tool has a hardened gauge steel blade which is ground to dig into the top coil of the installed insert. With this tool, quick removal of inserts without damage to the workpiece surface can be achieved.

HeliCoil Extraction Tools can be used to remove both free running and screw lock inserts.

Extraction Procedure
  • Place the blade about 1/4 coil from the end of the insert and apply pressure
  • Rotate the tool anti-clockwise to remove the insert
  • Discard the extracted insert and install a new HeliCoil insert
